Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
(Luke 9:20 ESV)
Y’all, the first year of marriage is hard. Don’t get me wrong, it is so so good. But it is a truly sanctifying experience. Though it has now been ten months, I still have to remind myself that Austin is not just my boyfriend anymore. That the decisions I make matter in his life. That the words I say affect him in the most tender of ways. I sometimes have to stop before I speak something and remind myself, “He is your husband, Lauren. Please don’t say that.” So if I need to remind myself who my husband is, do I not need to remind myself all the more who my Jesus is? Yes, if we are believers, we have already confessed Him as Lord. But how often do we confess Him as the most high? The most holy? The sweetest? The one who knows no end and is so, so good. Spend some time today answering the question, “Who do you say I am?” When we know who He is, we can serve and love Him better.
Lord, You are good. You are Messiah. You are the Son of God. You are I am. You are Holy. You are kind. You are so incredibly just and still, You are merciful. I love you, Lord, but help me love you better.
