And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.” And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.
Can you imagine what it would be like to never stand up straight? To be bent over, unable to look someone in the eye unless they came to you, unable to participate in physical labor, unable to do basic life things. That’s where this woman was. She had spend a huge chunk of her life depending on others and likely made to be embarrassed for it. Then Jesus comes along and performs the greatest of miracles. Yes he heals her of her disability, but even more, he allows her to see Him clearly. He opens her eyes, and gives her the ability to glorify God for these works. And in a sweet way, He has healed all His children of a disabling spirit. We could not stand up straight to see Him fully. We could not participate in Kingdom work. We could not–and did not want to–do the basic task of glorifying Him. Just like He worked miraculously to heal this woman, not by her own power but Jesus’s alone, He works miraculously in each one of us; however, this time, it is for eternity.
Lord, thank you for healing me of my fleshly Spirit. You made a way for God to look upon me and only see complete healing. I love you, Jesus.
