The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil…
(Proverbs 8:13 ESV)
Yesterday in our reading plan, we discussed the fear of the Lord as the best thing we can possess. Well, apparently He wanted us to keep going on that theme because this small, powerful phrase can be found in today’s passage. The fear of the Lord is the hatred of evil. Here sit these two words: fear and hate. These two words are not things we strive for on this earth. They are negative. We seek to rid our lives of them. We rarely think of the place they do have in our lives. When we are actively fearing the Lord, recognizing His divine power over everything in eternity, then we will hate evil, anything that is against Him. We will hate the evil desires we harbor. We will hate the misuse of His name. We will hate Satan and his schemes. We will hate that those schemes have hold over our friends and family. So I ask again, Christian, are we living in fear of the Lord? Is our hatred being used for the good of His Kingdom? Let’s live to fear. Let’s live to hate.
Jesus, help me hate what you hate that I might love what you love. Give me fear of you that surpasses every fear that I have on this earth.
