Welcome back for another installment of “My Favorite Podcasts”! If you haven’t checked out my first post about marriage podcasts, go check it out. Today, I want to share some podcasts that are pretty special to me.

2019 was the year I became a mother.

My pregnancy was great. It was just looooooong. In preparing for motherhood/trying to get Eden to come on out (it didn’t work–she was two weeks late), I spent an hour or more every day walking around a local park binging motherhood and birth podcasts.

Then after she arrived (yay!), the hours and hours of round the clock breastfeeding meant I desperately needed to hear some adult voices. Especially encouraging voices.

The women who host these podcasts have become very special voices to me. They’re encouraging and uplifting and most of them bring my focus back to where my identity lies: Jesus.

1. Coffee + Crumbs

cc-final-square_2Coffee + Crumbs is my very favorite motherhood podcast. It’s real, practical, and won’t leave you without a laugh.

The podcast actually started after the Coffee + Crumbs website was created. It’s a beautiful space where mamas can read stories of others going through the same experiences. So the podcast looks very similar.

In most episodes, three moms sit and chat about various aspects of motherhood. My favorite episode type is called “This is how we do” where the hosts share how they do different things including laundry, dinner, photo storage, holidays, and anything else that comes up! These episodes are fun because no one is claiming to be an expert. It’s just a few women sharing what works and does not work for their specific family contexts.

This podcast truly feels like you are sitting down with some girl friends talking about the rollercoaster that is motherhood. Most episodes leave me laughing and some make me teary.

My very favorite episode is called “Being a Good Friend in Hard Seasons”. I started there and I would highly encourage you to as well!

2. Risen Motherhood

RMFloraliTunes_FINALIf you’re looking some Gospel centered mama encouragement, this is the place to go. In each episode, Laura and Emily share how different aspects of motherhood are redeemed by the Gospel. They remind us of the freedom that comes with finding our identity not in our motherhood or our relationships but only in Christ.

Sometimes motherhood can feel mundane. Between grocery shopping and changing diapers and wondering if we are doing anything right at all, Risen Motherhood has been a sweet encouragement to me.

No, I am not getting it all right. No, I am not the perfect mother. Yes, I have a God who gives overflowing grace. He is the only constant thing when my own abilities fail.

If you need some sweet encouragement, Risen Motherhood is the place to go. You could start anywhere at all, but I personally loved the recent episode, “Mothering as Service: Stewardship and Sacrifice”. That would be an awesome place to start!

3. The Purpose Show

iTunes_ThumbnailThis is a new one for me, but I am loving it! Allie Casazza is on a mission to help moms live an uncluttered life. I am all about that.

Allie was a mom minimalist before it was cool. She teaches moms in her podcast that we pay for things twice: once with our money and again with our time.

My family is currently in the process of moving to a new space, and this has been really motivating to keep everything I have to a minimal. I don’t know about you, but I am NOT trying to spend my daughter’s childhood continually cleaning up after her and managing all the junk I have brought home.

A great episode to start with would be Episode 84: “Putting Off Decluttering? I Wrote a ‘Why’ For You.”

4. The Birth Hour

400x400bbAlright preggo mamas! This one is for you! When I first found out I was pregnant, I knew I had a maximum of nine months to get ready for the greatest feet my body would ever accomplish: bringing a baby into the world.

The Birth Hour was largely how I learned all about that process.

In each episode, Brynn interviews a different mom about her pregnancy, birth experience, and postpartum journey. I absolutely binged through these episodes. Not only were they super entertaining (and had me in tears every time because hello birth is beautiful), but I learned SO MUCH!

Seriously. I felt like I aced my birth class because I already knew most of what there was to know.

This podcast is awesome because it covers every type of birth. I never felt out of control or out of the loop during my own birth experience because I had learned so stinking much from this podcast.

If you have a specific birth plan, I would listen to an episode that went that way. For example, if you want an unmedicated hospital birth, play episode 430: “Unmedicated Hospital Birth with AROM”. There’s lots of stories for every type of birth plan and of course, plenty that don’t go to plan.

This podcast also inspired me to write my own birth story. Check it out if you’re interested in that type of thing.

5. Today, By The Way

today-by-the-way-indiana-adams-H5WvMc3kdQG-BDCzEhrLcN6.1400x1400Last, but no least, is one of my new favorites! Today, By the Way is hosted by one of the moms who also hosted Coffee + Crumbs. She puts out a new episode every Monday and Friday that details all kinds of mom news.

From pop culture to deals of the week and just fun things happening around the world, Indiana Adams makes catching up on the latest fun and simple. The episodes are only about 15 minutes which is the perfect amount of time for me to plug in while I’m running a quick errand or jumping in the shower before Eden wakes up.

They are super casual and super fun. Since it goes week-by-week, just start at the most recent episode!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Well Mamas, those are my VERY favorite mom podcasts! Some honorable mentions are The Mom Hour, The Lazy Genius, The Bristows Made A Baby, The Balanced Life with Robin Long, and Mother like a Boss!

Don’t see your favorite? Comment below! I’m always looking for something new to start!
