Hey friends!

This week I want to start something fun. For me, 2019 me was “The Year of Podcasts”. Between being super preggo and walking a million miles, to breastfeeding around the clock, to just needing to hear the voices of other adults while I am staying at home with Eden, podcasts have been my sanity in a lot of ways this past year.

There are three main categories I tend to bounce around: faith based, marriage, and motherhood. So why not share those with you?! This week, I’ll be writing about the best of each in this mini series. Be sure to share and save this post so you know which ones to come back to!

Don’t see your favorite podcast? Comment below! I’d love to add some new ones to my list.

But today, let’s hone in on the best of the best marriage podcasts.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Let me start by saying this: I am not really into the whole “how-to-marriage” thing. We are all different people married to different people. The communication strategies that work for me and Austin may not work for you and your spouse.

What does matter is that we are standing on a solid foundation: Christ and what He has done for us. That’s what these podcasts focus on.

1. 30 Minutes With The PerrysScreen Shot 2020-01-11 at 5.04.19 PM

Okay first, if you’ve never heard of Preston and Jackie Perry, you’ve gotta check them out! We originally found them through their spoken word poems and have really enjoyed following their journey over the last few years.

This new podcast is just what it sounds like: 30 minutes of Preston and Jackie talking about anything and everything. From toxic friendships to dealing with your partner’s sexual past, there is already an awesome variety of content. There are only a few episodes so far, so I would just start at the very beginning.

2. As For Me And My House by Jordan and Milena Ciciotti

Jordan and Milena Ciciotti are YouTubers who had a baby girl three months before my girl was born. They are a young, married, and parents, much like Austin and me. It’s always sweet to hear how people our age are navigating this stage of life through the lens of the Gospel, and that’s exactly what they do.

Part of their description reads, “Jordan and Milena take you on a raw and unfiltered journey through thier lives as followers of Jesus… Whether they are sharing truth and Biblical wisdom, giving relationship advice, or telling funny stories… [they] seek  to exist as a platform for encouragement, love, and support for all who listen.”

It’s such a fun peek into the lives of other Christ followers. I loved the “Resolving Conflict” episode, so that is a great place to start!

3. Solid Joys by John Pipersolid-joys-audio-5a0dd6d2592f3

Okay, admittedly this is not a marriage podcast. Not at all. But hear me out.

Solid Joys by John Piper is a short, daily devotion podcast. On the mornings where Austin is rushing out the door, it can be a sweet start to our day together. Hearing five minutes of Biblical truth together before separating for our days. I can pray what I learned over him and he can pray the same over me.

While this isn’t technically a marriage podcast, it can certainly benefit every marriage for the better.

Because this is a daily podcast, just start in whatever day you happen to be on!

4. Behind the Scenes by Audrey and Jeremy Roloff268x0w

As someone who grew up watching “Little People, Big Word,” this one is pretty fun for me. Much like, “For Me and My House,” It’s much less like a how-to podcast and more of a this-is-what-we-do podcast. The little Roloff fam is just ahead of where my family is in parenting and marriage. They really stress regular and intentional communication which is a cornerstone of my marriage and so important to me.

There is a lot light-heartedness and many funny and sweet moments. I loved the episode called “10 Ideas For Celebrating Your Anniversary”, so that would be an awesome place to start!

5. Java with Julijava-with-juli-dr-juli-slattery-author-and-MKfbnFsHExO-_G1Qgj20dit.1400x1400

This last podcast is one to listen to with headphones! Dr. Juli Slattery, founder of Authentic Intimacy, sits down in a coffee shop week after week to talk about both the sexual and relational intimacy we desire as humans.

There can be a lot of shame involved in sexual intimacy for believers specifically, and Dr. Slattery’s mission is to remove the shame and help get us back to God’s design for sexuality. Episode #282, “How Shame Impacts Us” is a great starting place!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

That’s about it for my favorite marriage podcasts! One disclaimer–I haven’t listened to every episode of many of these podcasts, so I can’t necessarily endorse everything they communicate. But I sure have enjoyed what I’ve heard so far!
